Last year, Intel reported that it planned to increase the prices of its processors, including the 12th generation Alder Lake processors. The decision was supposed to take effect in the fourth quarter of 2022, but it looks like the price hike has finally arrived despite it being early 2023.
Intel starts 2023 with up to 10% price hike on 12th Gen Alder Lake processors and 13th Gen chips to get more expensive too
The price increase is already visible on Intel’s Ark website where the majority of 12th Gen Alder Lake processors were affected. This is still a slight increase from the Price increase “up to 20%” than Intel has planned for other PC components, but despite that, what makes this a little harder to digest is the fact that the price increases make the 12th Gen Alder Lake line much more expensive than the 13th Gen Raptor Lake although the latter offers better performance, more cores/threads and cache.
I would say the other thing is that we have a good set of products coming out in the second half of the year. And I think we’re operating on a roll in terms of product offerings across all of our businesses. And then thirdly, we raise the prices, and the prices usually go into effect in the fourth quarter. We spent quite a bit of time.
We will also see more price improvement in CCG than DCAI. They are both – we adjust prices, but prices are more important in CCG. And it also gives CCG a boost in the latter part of the year.

According to pricing from the Intel Ark website, the Intel Core i9-13900K processor was affected by the largest price increase of +US$59. It’s still in the +10% boost range, but due to the high cost this chip has already been tagged with, it has the biggest cost boost. The same goes for the board with all the 12th Gen Alder Lake chips, but it’s worth pointing out that this price increase wouldn’t just be limited to the 12th Gen chips, but we’ll see them soon on the 13th line as well Raptor Lake generation.

Major outlets have yet to adjust their prices as the Intel Core i9-12900K can still be found for US$409-$407 at new egg, Amazon, best buy & Microcenter. This is likely due to old rates and the stocks they were bought from, but as soon as new stocks start arriving we will see the price adjustments.

We think this price increase can potentially affect the customer side of Intel, which has made a lot of progress against AMD over the past few quarters. PC builders are still hesitant to buy the new Ryzen 7000 processors and are still building PCs with Ryzen 5000 chips due to the higher costs associated with not just the processors but the platform itself. the Upcoming Intel B760 boards launching today will also get a 10% price increase but will still be cheaper than AMD’s B650 cards which are limited to supporting DDR5 memory only.
