In 2015, we shared our vision of Assassination world; an ever-expanding game that would evolve over time and be the foundation for the future hitman Games. Those are the exact words we used and a central promise on how we’ve released all three games over the next seven years.
Today we are excited to announce some upcoming changes to how our players (existing and new) will discover, access and purchase HitmanI, Hitman IIand HITMANIII. These changes will make it easier than ever to enter and enjoy the Assassination world— and finally allow us to achieve the vision we have set ourselves.
As of January 26, 2023, the following changes are expected to come into effect.
Hitman III will become Hitman: World of Assassinationwhich will also include access to HitmanI and Hitman II through our existing Access Pass system. Current Hitman III Owners will get a free upgrade to Hitman: World of Assassination on all platforms.
We are greatly simplifying the shopping experience for new players. Hitman: World of Assassination will be the only option available to start playing.
Essentially, these two changes will mean that all new and existing players Hitman III Owners will have the same basic content ownership. There will be no more confusion about which edition to buy, what content you own, how to use Legacy packs or import slots, etc. We’re done with that.
■ The Assassination world
We approach these changes with an uncompromising approach. We want to make sure that the experience of entering or enjoying the Assassination world is simple and straightforward.
Let’s break it down. We are streamlining the (many) deals currently available in stores to two products. These will replace the existing means of purchase HitmanI, Hitman IIor HITMANIII.
- Hitman: World of Assassination (about US$70 or local equivalent)
- Understand : Hitman IIImore Hitman I Game of the Year Access pass and Hitman II Standard access pass.
- Hitman: World of Assassination luxury package (about US$30 or local equivalent)
- Understand : Hitman III luxury package, Hitman III Collection of the Seven Deadly Sins, and Hitman II Extension access pass.
That’s it. These are the only two products that new players should consider when purchasing a hitman game digitally starting January 26, 2023.
■ Gamer-friendly flexibility
We want the experience for new players to be simple and concrete. We believe the above changes will achieve this goal. However, for existing players, who cover a large matrix of different ownership combinations, we are a bit more flexible, but still with a strong approach to simplicity.
The reason for this flexibility is that we know many of you own some games or downloadable content but not others, and we don’t want to force anyone to (re)purchase what they already own. We think that’s reason enough to still have some options, but those options won’t be front and center for new players. The idea is to keep these details visible for those who might need them.
Steam completes the set
On Steam, we will be implementing the “Complete Set” functionality for the three DLC packs included in the Hitman: World of Assassination Deluxe package (Hitman III luxury package, Hitman III Collection of the Seven Deadly Sins, and Hitman II Extension access pass). This means you only pay an equal share for any content you don’t own. For example, if you own two of the DLCs, you’ll only pay $10 for the remaining DLC, instead of having to pay full price for the full Deluxe Pack.
In-game story
On other platforms, we’ve added each individual downloadable content from the new Hitman: World of Assassination Deluxe package (Hitman III luxury package, Hitman III Collection of the Seven Deadly Sins, and Hitman II Expansion Access Pass) to the in-game store, again with equal price ($10 each). If you own some (but not all) of this content, you’ll be able to purchase whatever you’re missing, at a new, reduced price.
Changes to the store front
One important detail we want to be clear about among these changes is that we are removing the standalone HitmanI and Hitman II products for sale on all platforms. If you already own these games, you will still be able to access them in exactly the same way as today. Of course, the majority of the content included in these games remains playable via Hitman: World of Assassinationwith all the improvements introduced with Hitman III.
On that note, and for clarity, Hitman III will remain available in its current standalone form until the next Hitman: World of Assassination.
■ Final Thoughts
We are absolutely certain that these changes will have an extremely positive effect on existing players and new players. It will also make our lives much easier too, there is no doubt about it.
For many gamers, that will mean free content to enjoy. For others, it will mean significantly cheaper DLC prices. For new players, who are probably not reading this here, they will have a much better shopping experience hitman Games.
The changes were also made with the Freelancer game mode in mind, where being able to easily access all World of Assassination locations is paramount to maximizing your enjoyment.
