Transfer Gate Rivals - Which Teams Had The Best Gate Pickups On National Signing Day

There were plenty of stories surrounding the high school’s prospects on Wednesday’s National Signing Day, the same can be said for the movement within the transfer gate.

We break down which teams had the best transfer gate signings on Wednesday.

Colorado Buffaloes:

Deion Sander created much-needed buzz around Colorado’s program and Jackson State’s star additions Shedeur Sanders and Hunter Travis only help. Sanders threw for 6,983 yards with 70 touchdowns to just 14 interceptions in his two seasons with the Tigers while Hunter exuded a high-level pick skill set after his freshman year in college.

The Buffaloes also tackled the offensive line by adding tackle Savion Washington (Kent State) and Guard Tyler Brown (Jackson State) while focusing on adding defensive players who should have an immediate impact on defensive linemen Taijh Watson (West Virginia), Shane Cokes (Dartmouth), linebacker LaVonta Bentley (Clemson).

Kentucky Wildcats:

The Wildcats were able to bolster their offense in a major way, highlighted by the quarterback additions Devin Leary (NC State) and running back Re’Mahn Davis (Vanderbilt). Leary, ranked No. 3 player in the Rivals Transfer Rankings, he threw for 6,807 yards and 62 touchdowns against just 16 interceptions during his time with the Wolfpack while Davis is coming off a 1,000 yard season for the Commodores.

Tanner Bowles (Alabama) and Cox brands (Northern Illinois) also meet needs along the offensive line. Defensively, the Wildcats are adding some talented young defensive backs in JQ Hardaway (Cincinnati) and Jantzen Dunn (State of Ohio).

Nebraska Cornhuskers:

New Nebraska head coach matte ruler are looking to revamp their roster and make some noise in 2023. Currently, their staff have added six quality transfers from the portal.

Offensively, Rhule’s transfer class is evidenced by the former Georgia Tech quarterback Jeff Simsa 23-game starter for the Yellow Jackets who threw for 4,464 yards with 30 touchdowns to 23 interceptions to rush for 1,166 yards and 11 touchdowns in his career.

Former Baylor running back/wide receiver Josh Fleeks recently joined the Cornhuskers. He’s another veteran with 45 career games under his belt, catching 69 passes for 707 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 88 yards during his time with the Bears.

Defensively, Nebraska added quality young talent at linebacker Chief Borders (Florida), security Corey Collier, Jr. (Florida) and defensive lineman Elie Jeudy (Texas A&M) – each has three more years of eligibility.

Additionally, Nebraska added a long snapper Marco Ortiz from Florida to fill a big need on special teams.

State of Michigan:

once again, Mel Tucker replenishes its roster from the transfer portal, announcing eight additions to the Spartans roster on Wednesday. The crown jewel being the former Texas A&M defensive lineman Tummise Adelye, the no. 7 player in the Rivals transfer rankings. The former five-star prospect just finished his freshman season in a redshirt and offers a ton of passing potential and three years of eligibility remaining.

Michigan State also addressed other defensive needs by adding tackles Jarrett Jackson (State of Florida) and Dr. Butler (Liberty) to accompany former Wisconsin cornerback Semar Melvin.

Offensively, the Spartans responded to running back needs with Nathan Carter (UConn) and added two tight ends in Ademola Faley (State of Norfolk) and Tyneil Hopper (Boise State).

Special teams needs have also been met with the addition of the former North Carolina kicker Jonathan Kima starting specialist for the Tar Heels.

Oregon Ducks:

Oregon Head Coach Dan Lanning and his staff have so far added five high-quality transfers to their list in the portal window. Their biggest engagement came on Wednesday when the former Rhode Island offensive tackle Ajani Cornelius He picked the Ducks from a Top 4 that also included Ohio State, Nebraska and Tennessee.

Cornelius, a 22-game right tackle starter and first-team All-CAA performer, joins Angelua Junior (Texas) to help bolster Oregon’s offensive line heading into the 2023 season, which will see the quarterback return Bo Nix.

Angelua missed the 2022 season with a knee injury in fall camp, but started 34 games during his tenure with the Longhorns.

The Ducks also added a talented passer Treason Holden (Alabama), who started five games for the Crimson Tide and had 25 catches for 331 yards and six touchdowns last season.

Oregon has also beefed up its defense by adding veterans Justin Jacobs (LB, Iowa) and Kyree Jackson (CB, Alabama).
