Texas post-Early Signing Day listing matrix

The early signing period is a few hours away from closing and the Texas Longhorns to sign the vast majority of the Class of 2023 after Thursday’s signing of four-star consensus receiver DeAndre Moore Jr.

So it’s worth taking another look at the current roster matrix for the 2023 season with 23 members of the 2023 class signed, two transfers added to the mix, and 12 players who entered the NCAA transfer portal or have the intention to do so.

• Texas is close to finishing the 2023 class – the only targets left on the board are Phoenix (Arizona) Pinnacle tight end Duce Robinson, Waco Connally nickel back Jelani McDonald and Mableton (Ga.) Pebblebrook cornerback Tyler Scott, with McDonald the mos player likely to sign.

• Of the 12 players who have entered the NCAA transfer portal or intend to do so, five of them have found new destinations.
• Junior running back Bijan Robinson, senior running back Roschon Johnson and senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown have all officially declared themselves for the 2023 season. NFL Draft and withdrew from the Alamo Bowl. Here’s what these exclusions mean for Longhorns.
• Junior wide receiver Jordan Whittington, senior defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat and senior linebacker Jett Bush all remain on the matrix with the hope or possibility of all three returning for the 2023 season.
• Second-year wide receiver Agiye Hall is included on the transfer portal’s roster following his departure from the program earlier this week.
• With the additions of cornerback Gavin Holmes and punter Ryan Sanborn from the Portal, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said Wednesday there are three to four more places to remove more players from the Portal, as the purse list currently stands at 84. Former Syracuse safety Ja’Had Carter surrendered before the dead period, but Texas otherwise has no clear goals in the portal and some of the late 2023 additions like wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. and Edge Tausili Akana reduced the need for portal additions to these positions. If junior linebacker Jaylan Ford declares for the draft, it would greatly increase the urgency of finding a potential starter in that position.
