South Carolina added 22 members for the Class of 2023 during the early signing period this week. Still head coach Shane Beamer made it clear that the team was considering more.
“There are also guys I’m sure who aren’t signing today and are waiting to make decisions in February,” Beamer said Wednesday at a signing day press conference. “A lot of people know one in particular that I’m referring to, and then there are others too.”
Beamer couldn’t say his name, per NCAA rules, but he was likely referring to South Carolina’s interest in Defensive end Nyckoles Harbour.
Harbor is a five-star recruit from Washington, DC who is expected to make his decision in February. He projects himself as a tight end or defensive end at the college level.
Harbor would be the first five-star prospect Beamer landed in South Carolina. If South Carolina were to land him, he would be the program’s first five-star signee since Jordan Burch (2020) and Zacch Pickens (2019).
Harbor would have chosen between USC, Maryland, Michigan, LSU and Miami. He is also capable of playing close end position and is known for his ability to make plays in the passing game due to his athleticism.
Beamer may have also alluded to this when talking about the team’s tight end group.
“We may or may not end up in this room too,” Beamer said.
Harbor traveled to South Carolina for the game against Georgia. He told 247Sports he has yet to have a home visit with the head coaches and that they all book their only visit for January.
The traditional National Signature Day is February 1. 1.
“I think it’s very close to Gamecock commits.” 247 Athletic Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong said of Harbor on the network’s “College Football Recruiting Show” this week. Wiltfong said Michigan, Maryland and South Carolina would be its leaders. “He has established a great relationship with their staff and also paid an official visit to Columbia this fall.”
