December 23, 7:45 p.m.
As temperatures continue to rise, we expect to return to near-normal operations tomorrow, December 21. 23. Be sure to continue to check with your airlines before leaving for the airport and to contact them directly in the event of delays, cancellations or rescheduling.
December 23, 3:40 p.m.
Another track (16R) is now open… that’s 2 (out of 3)! Airlines are working hard to get their planes out safely. We appreciate all the teams assisting in these difficult conditions. As always, remember to check with your airlines before heading to the airport!
December 23, 11:25 a.m.
We continue to keep the runway (16L) and adjacent taxiways clear while our snow removal crews de-ice and ensure safety. We have seen take-offs/landings as flight operations follow one another. We will be working on more races as the weather warms up and improves. Be sure to check with your airline.
December 23, 9:30 a.m.
Crews continue to work to clear the airfield of ice. Thank you to our teams for security!
December 23, 7 a.m.
Currently, one runway (16L) has been opened after being de-iced. These are limited operations and will continue to be weather dependent as safety is always the main priority. Travelers should continue to monitor their flights and stay in contact with airlines.
December 23, 5 a.m.
The trails are currently closed indefinitely due to freezing rain and temperatures. Crews are working to de-ice surfaces as quickly and safely as possible. Safety is the top priority before the slopes reopen. Be sure to check with your airlines for further updates on your specific flight.
December 22, 5 p.m.
We follow the forecasts closely. We are ready for the winter weather ahead. Taxiways and SEA runways were treated with de-icer in anticipation of cold weather and possible freezing rain. Check with your airline for specific flight information.
December 22, 3:45 p.m.
We’re ready for you — are you ready to take off? Here are some SEA suggestions to speed up your vacation:
- Arrive early! Allow extra time if you park in the airport garage or check in your luggage
- Download or update the flySEA app – it has live security checkpoint wait times!
- Use Sea Point Saver to reserve your place in the TSA queue
- Simplify your Security experience – do not pre-wrap your gifts (we have free wraps available in the central terminal)
- If possible, limit your checked baggage

December 22, 2022, 9:30 a.m.
TSA security checkpoints are currently experiencing long wait times. Please arrive at the airport early and check the flySEA app for the latest waiting times at checkpoints. The staff will direct you to the fastest line. If you are part of a trusted traveler program, please use your dedicated lane and checkpoint for screening. Queues can stretch into the parking lot if necessary, so be prepared for cold temperatures while you wait.
December 21, 2022, 11:30 a.m.
Brrrr – it’s cold there! Temperatures at SEA are expected to drop even further, according to the National Weather Service. The airfield surfaces are currently bare and wet. We continue to monitor weather conditions and treat surfaces against ice.

December 20, 2022, 3:30 p.m.
The ground is currently wet and bare at SEA but we continue to monitor the forecast. Reminder: Airlines manage their own flight schedules and aircraft de-icing operations (if required), so check with them for any changes or cancellations to your specific flight.
December 20, 2022, 7:30 a.m.
No snow on the ground but expected later in the day. De-icing operations are currently in effect. Please check with your airline for any schedule changes or cancellations as airlines have pre-cancelled a number of flights for today.
December 19, 2022, 4:00 p.m.
SEA Airport is open and operating with no impact on operations. The 8th floor of the car park has been treated and is open for use!
