FedEx and UPS warn of possible delivery delays as winter storm sweeps the country

fedex and UPS are warning customers that harsh winter weather conditions around many service centers may cause delivery delays.

“FedEx Express experienced significant disruptions at our Memphis and Indianapolis hubs last night due to severe winter weather conditions that have spread across the United States,” said the the company said in an alert.

FedEx sent the service alert on Friday and asked customers to check for updates regularly as the winter storm rides through the northern part of the United States

Potential delays are possible for package deliveries across the United States with a delivery commitment of Friday, December 23 and Saturday, December 24, the company said. “FedEx is committed to providing service to the best of its abilities.”

FOLLOW THE STORM WITH FOX WEATHER

FedEx, as well as its competitor UPS, both insist on the safety of their employees.

In a service alert, UPS said: “Significant weather events in multiple regions of the United States are impacting the UPS Air and Ground network, including UPS hubs in Louisville, Ky. and Rockford, Illinois. As a result , some delivery and pick-up services in these areas will be impacted.

“Safely delivering on our commitments is UPS’s most important priority,” UPS spokesman Jim Mayer told FOX Business. Our drivers are trained to deliver safely, and if we cannot deliver safely to an area, we will resume service as soon as conditions permit.

Mayer added that UPS has a team of full-time meteorologists who monitor the weather and help create contingency plans as winter storms develop.

UPS has also asked customers to check service alerts for the latest information on service delays.

The United States Postal Service says it anticipates various weather issues throughout the year, including efforts to ensure employees have the tools and training necessary to do their jobs safely.

USPS made service alerts available to consumers, small businesses, and commercial mailers about postal facility service interruptions due to disasters or weather-related events and other natural disasters.

Spokesperson Kim Frum told FOX Business that the USPS’ National Preparedness Function provides daily weather forecasts and situational information to leaders on the ground, which is used along with information from federal, state and premises, as well as suppliers and operators, to make operational decisions.

HOLIDAY TRAVEL DISRUPTIONS: AIRLINES ISSUE WAIVERS AHEAD OF WINTER STORM

Heavy snow, ice and high winds are among the conditions expected Thursday through Saturday in various parts of the country, stretching from the Plains and Midwest to the East Coast.

On top of that, forecasters are expecting severe cold during the holiday weekend.

Bad weather is also weighing on airlines, as the dangerous conditions lead to thousands of delays and cancellations.

More than 3,463 flights within, to or from the United States were delayed as of 11:30 a.m. ET Friday, according to flight tracking website FlightAware. More than 3,800 flights have been canceled, according to the data.

As of Thursday, more than 10,028 flights to, from and across the United States were delayed and nearly 2,539 were canceled.
