A first look at Michigan's top targets in the 2024 class

Even though the Class of 2023 isn’t officially over and there are still a handful of goals Michigan is pursuing, much of the focus can now shift to the Class of 2024. With a four-star trio already engaged, 2024 is off to a much better start than 2023. Two consecutive Big Ten championships and college football playoff berths will have that kind of impact on the track.

As we transition into the Class of 2024, here is a brief list of key goals to pay attention to as the cycle progresses.

Providence Day (NC) five-star QB Jadyn Davis – Nope. 19 in total, No. 3 QBs

This one is a no-brainer, as Michigan has made Davis the top quarterback priority. After earning only three stars Kendrick Bell In the Class of 2023, who may or may not stay at the job, quarterbacking is a huge need.

Davis initially said he wanted to commit by the end of the year, but that could be pushed back. Michigan has the ball on the goal line in this recruiting and must hit it. Landing Davis would have a huge influence on the rest of the class, as five-star quarterbacks tend to do.

St. Louis University (MO) five star WR ryan wingo – Nope. 14 in total, No. 3WR

One guy Davis’ commitment would impact is Wingo, one of the best wide receivers in the country. Jay Harbaugh laid the groundwork here as a scout in Missouri, and Ron Bellamy took over as future post coach. They’ve done a good job on Wingo so far, getting him on campus twice.

It originally looked like a Michigan-our Lady battle, but more NIL-laden teams like Tennessee, Oregon, and Miami jumped into the running, making it a tougher battle to win.

St. Ignatius (IL) five star DL Justin Scott – Nope. 18 in total, No. 4DL

Michigan has done a great job recruiting Illinois in 2023 and will look to continue that success with the state’s MVP in 2024. Scott has had a big interest in Michigan for some time, but he hasn’t been able to get him on campus until the state of michigan game this year.

Now they will work to bring it back to campus as they battle against the other Midwestern powers in ohio state and Notre Dame, plus some interest from southern schools like Alabama, in signing Scott.

Rochester Adams (MI) TE four star Brady Prieskorn – Nope. 57 in total, No. 3TE

Michigan State has a strong crop of talent in the 2024 class, none more desired by the Wolverines than Prieskorn, who is one of the best tight ends in the nation. He’s a quiet kid who doesn’t talk much to the media, so it was a pleasant surprise to learn this fall that he had already made five visits to Ann Arbor.

The closeness to home and Michigan’s success with tight ends makes it seem like an easy adjustment, so hopefully the staff can wrap this one up sooner rather than later.

Moeller (OH) RB four stars Jordan Marshall – Nope. 105 in total, No. 8 BR

Michigan got off to a strong start at Ohio in 2023 by landing four rookies from Buckeye State. However, the Wolverines were primarily fighting Cincinnati for those guys instead of Ohio State. Landing Marshall would be a big step forward as he actually holds an offer from Ohio State.

But after watching Michigan destroy the state team twice in a row using a devastating ground attack, Marshall should pay close attention to the Wolverines. This is one recruiting that Mike Hart must be heavily involved with as he tries to replenish talent in his post room.

Buford (GA) four star ATH King Joseph Edwards – Nope. 38 in total, No. 5 HUD

As Georgia State’s top 50 player, we were just waiting to dismiss Edwards as not a possibility and move on. However, he continues to show signs that he is very interested in Michigan and is having a hard time moving on.

Edwards has already visited Michigan twice, which is a lot for a southern junior, and is overwhelmingly positive about the Wolverines on his social media. Her mother in particular spoke of her love for the program. It will likely end with him staying home to play for Georgia, but there’s a chance.

LB Four Star Good Advisor (MD) Aaron Chiles – Nope. 66 in total, No. 5 pounds

It would be really beneficial for Michigan to start recruiting better in the DMV area, although it will be more difficult with Biff Poggi heading to Charlotte. Michigan’s defensive staff always do well with Chiles early on, as he is one of the best linebackers in his class.

Chiles has yet to make many school visits, and that will be Michigan’s top priority with him going forward. For now, Penn State, Maryland and Clemson seem like the top contenders since bringing him to campus. Michigan could take a huge step in that recruiting once it surrenders.

Fitch four-star edge (OH) Brian Robinson – Nope. 127 in total, No. 12 edge

It’s been reported that future high schoolers in Ohio are tired of Ohio State waiting to offer them as they search nationwide and then come back for them late. Michigan could take advantage of that with Robinson, one of the Buckeyes’ top 150 backyard players they haven’t offered yet.

Steve Clinkscale leverages his Youngstown connections heavily to make Michigan Robinson’s undisputed favorite. He’s been to campus a few times already, and all the crystal balls are in Michigan. Even without an OSU offer, it would be a big win over Notre Dame and Penn State.

Rockhurst (MO) four-star OT Andre Sprague – Nope. 201 in total, No. 11 TO

The offensive line will be a position of need in 2024 after only signing three in the 2023 class. Fortunately, Sherrone Moore will have a lot to sell on the track with back-to-back Joe Moore Awards and a Rimington Award winner on his resume.

Sprague has become Michigan’s top target at tackle and has done well so far to get him on campus twice. He visited USL and Notre Dame too, but local schools like Kansas and Kansas State may actually be the biggest competition here.

Northside (GA) four star S Ricardo Jones – Nope. 75 in total, No. 7S

Michigan didn’t take a real safety in its 2023 class, leaving an open place for an elite guy like Jones to fill that role. He traveled to Michigan for the Big House BBQ and was supposed to attend the Penn State game, but had to cancel.

Southern schools like Auburn, Tennessee and Georgia are also chasing Jones, so it won’t be easy. However, he showed a lot of interest in the program and you can’t count Jay Harbaugh on any race.
